What can happen?

Poland are guaranteed a place in the last 16 as long as they avoid defeat. A combination of a Poland defeat and a Northern Ireland victory against Germany would leave the Poles relying on going through as one of the four best third places teams.

Ukraine are already out of the competition following their 2-0 defeat against Northern Ireland.

It’s a big game for…

Arkadiusz Milik

The technically gifted Ajax forward has had a mixed tournament so far. His goal against Northern Ireland secured Poland’s first victory in a Euros finals at the seventh attempt. He followed that up by squandering a header from four yards against Germany that seemed harder to miss. Milik will be hoping to erase the memory of that by helping his side through the knockout stages for the first time.

Best stat…

Andrei Shevchenko remains the only Ukrainian to have scored a goal at a Euros finals, with two in 2012.

Player to watch…

Robert Lewandowski

Yes, it’s the obvious choice, but Lewandowski came into the tournament rated as perhaps the world’s best striker and is yet to find the net. He will not have a better opportunity than against an already eliminated Ukraine likely to field several reserves. The Bayern Munich man will be looking to right the wrong of four years ago, when Poland went out in the group as co-hosts.

Premier League interest…

Poland (2): Artur Boruc, Łukasz Fabiański
