Mark Sampson's England could become the first team in 49 years to reach the final of a major tournament, if they beat Japan overnight.

England women will play in their first ever World Cup semi-final and in a first football match at this stage since Italia 90.

Sampson's team have recovered from defeat in their opening match of the competition to record four straight victories to be at this stage.

With Fran Kirby, Steph Houghton and Lucy Bronze taking the limelight at various stages.

England will face a very good Japanese side, ranked No 4 in the world, two places above England, for a chance to play the US in Sunday's final.
