World Cup 2014: Roy Hodgson's England squad forced to abandon first training session in Miami after floods

It has not been the warm-weather training experience expected

The England World Cup finals squad had to abandon their first training session in Miami today after torrential rains flooded the pitches and forced Roy Hodgson to take his players inside.

The squad arrived on Sunday afternoon for a week's warm-weather training at Barry University as well as two games at the city's Sun Life stadium against Ecuador on Wednesday and then Honduras on Saturday night - before they fly on to Rio de Janeiro for the tournament.

However, today is officially the first day of the hurricane season and locals have expressed surprise at the decision by the Football Association to rely on the weather in Florida. There has been heavy rain on and off all day in Miami, which is five hours behind the United Kingdom

It is not the first time that England have had to train under a cloud with grey skies dominating during their break in the Algarve last week, when they had to train in extra layers to recreate the conditions they expect to face in Manaus in their first World Cup game.
