Jose Mourinho: Tottenham praise ‘true professional’ after confirming manager’s sacking
The Portuguese has been relieved of his duties after 17 months in charge
Tottenham Hotspur have thanked Jose Mourinho for his efforts after sacking him as manager.
The Portuguese has been relieved of his duties after 17 months in charge and leaves the club in seventh place in the Premier League.
The move comes just six days before Spurs are set to face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.
It is understood the decision was made on Friday night following the 2-2 draw at Everton, a game which proved to be Mourinho’s last in charge.
“Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a club,” Daniel Levy said in a statement.
“Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic.
“On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged.
“He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution.”
Former player Ryan Mason will take charge of training on Monday and could be handed the reins for the remainder of the season.
