Leicester City champions: Premier League title win sparks wild celebrations at King Power Stadium and beyond

Ecstatic fans gathered in the city's streets and danced all night outside the club's ground after miraculous triumph

Leicester City fans have been partying all night, climbing the city’s clock tower and flooding the streets surrounding the King Power Stadium in jubilant celebrations after the team’s remarkable Premier League win.

A 2-2 draw between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge sealed the historic victory on Monday night, completing one of the biggest sporting upsets in history.

As the final whistle blew, fans who had watched Leicester's incredible journey from 5,000-1 outsiders for the title after narrowly avoiding relegation last season were overcome with emotion.

Footage showed supporters decked in Leicester shirts and scarves breaking down in tears, jumping up and down, cheering and chanting as the seemingly impossible triumph was confirmed.

A cacophony of car horns rang out on the city’s roads, while more than a thousand people gathered outside the team’s home ground broke out into song, starting a party that continued until 4am.

Perhaps the most prominent party of the night was held by the club's star striker and leading scorer, Jamie Vardy, who invited team mates to his house to watch the game - as delirious fans gathered outside his gated home.

City defender Christian Fuchs posted a video showing the footballers screaming, hugging each other and jumping up and down in the striker’s kitchen, chanting “champione, champione”.

Scenes inside Leicester’s pubs were just as emotional, with one video showing fans stamping the floor and cheering wildly as bar staff screamed and hugged each other.

At the Local Hero pub near the King Power stadium, supporters were ecstatic.

Curtis Leal, 27, of Leicester, said: “I'm in tears, I just can't believe it. What a moment.”

Kimberley Brainer, 22, described having a “meldown”, adding: “I don't know whether to laugh or cry - I knew I was going to have a meltdown.

"You've got to give credit to (Claudio) Ranieri, he's been amazing."

The Leicester City manager previously said he was due to be on a flight from Italy during the decisive game, meaning he would have had to wait for the crucial Chelsea v Spurs result until the plane landed.

Guus Hiddink, Chelsea’s interim manager, said his rival rang him after the match.

“I got a call off Ranieri at the end and he thanked us,” Hiddink said in his post-match press conference.

“His voice was trembling a bit, but I don’t know if he was crying because it wasn’t a FaceTime call!

“But they deserve it. They didn’t implode and got no tension when they started smelling the title, so that’s why they deserve it.”

Celebrating in Leicester, 19-year-old Jagdeep Tumber said: ”It won't feel real until I see Wes Morgan or Andy King, who has been at the club through our lowest point, lifting the trophy.

“Just to say that we are champions of England is just incredible.”

Richard Hamilton, 23, added: “It's just amazing, the city has come out for this and it's just brilliant for the fans and the city as a whole.”

It was the second day in a row the bars and pubs in the East Midlands city were packed out with fans, who had hoped for an early title clinch with a win against Manchester United on Sunday.

But the game ended 1-1 at Old Trafford, suspending the fairytale victory for another day.

At least 1,000 fans gathered at King Power Stadium for Monday night’s result, “Leicester 'til I die” and “Champions!” to mark the Foxes clinching the title.

Police said no arrests had been made despite the crowds and celebrations continuing in the streets until 4am, with photos showing some officers appearing to join in.

Geoff Sault, the team leader for Leicestershire Police, said: “There were certainly lots of people out celebrating - around 1,000 at the stadium and hundreds in the town centre.

"It was all good-natured - dancing and waving banners. We didn't have much in the way of actual trouble."
