Football supporters of a larger build have long been left embarrassed by tight-fitting replica shirts, but now it is a manager who finds himself red-faced after failing to squeeze into his new club’s official training kit.

According to a report in the Daily Star, larger than life Leeds boss Steve Evans has been unable to find any tracksuits that fit him since arriving at Elland Road in October, and instead has had to have the club’s crest sewn on to the training gear he wore during his time at fellow Yorkshire outfit Rotherham United.

It is the latest embarrassing story to emanate from the club under the controversial ownership of Massimo Cellino. The Leeds chairman failed the Owners and Directors Test upon the same day he appointed Evans, the club’s ninth manager in four years, and last month attempted to ban Sky Sports from Elland Road after suggesting that the television company were undermining attendances.

However, the Italian has supposedly contacted Kappa, the club’s official kit suppliers, in order to request a delivery of plus-sized training outfits especially for the 53-year-old Scot.

A source at Elland Road allegedly revealed: “The manager can’t seem to fit into the official Leeds training gear.

“So he’s using his old stuff and has got someone to attach Leeds badges to it so it looks like the original stuff all the rest of the coaching staff wear.”

This is not the first time that Evans’ clothes have made headlines. The outspoken Glaswegian notoriously arrived at Elland Road on the final day of last season while Rotherham boss, sporting a t-shirt, shorts, flip-flops and a sombrero after leading the South Yorkshire side to safety.

He had previously almost suffered another wardrobe malfunction during his time at the New York Stadium, hastily having to pull his trousers back up as he sprinted along the Wembley touchline while celebrating Alex Revell's equaliser in the 2014 League One play-off final.

The off-field issue hasn’t stopped Evans reviving Leeds’ fortunes on the pitch since taking over from Uwe Rosler. The Whites are unbeaten in their last eight games in all competitions, and at the weekend successfully progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup after defeating Evans’ former club Rotherham 2-0 at Elland Road.

Such form has lifted Leeds up to the relative comforts of 13th in the Championship table, and they could move into the top half with victory at Ipswich on Tuesday evening.
