Manchester United have made progress in negotiations over Jadon Sancho's potential Old Trafford salary and payments to his agents but still have much work to do to agree a fee with Borussia Dortmund.

Discussions between United and Sancho's camp were previously at an impasse over the player's wages but are understood to have advanced in recent days.

Though there is no final agreement in place with the player yet, the talks are constructive and encouraging developments have been made.

United still have much to do to reach a compromise with Dortmund, with the Bundesliga club demanding a transfer fee in the region of €120m for the 20-year-old.

The Old Trafford club are reluctant to meet that asking price, believing that Dortmund's valuation is unrealistic in a market affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Andrea Agnelli, the president of Juventus and chairman of the European Club Association said earlier this week that transfer valuations could be expected to fall by 20 to 30 per cent.

United are a member of the ECA and believe this is an accurate assessment of European football’s financial landscape. The Old Trafford club are determined not to over-pay for their transfer targets and repeat mistakes of the past.

Sancho is eager to join United before the transfer window deadline on 5 October, but has shown little sign of agitating for a move away from Signal Iduna Park.

Dortmund initially set a deadline of 10 August for negotiations with United - which they have conducted through a third party - to be completed. United dismissed that deadline as artificial.
