Manchester United have confirmed the £1.5m signing of Stoke City reserve goalkeeper Lee Grant.

Grant is Jose Mourinho’s third signing of the summer window, joining Fred and Diogo Dalot.

The 35-year-old has played for Stoke, Derby and Burnley in his 18-year professional career and says moving to Old Trafford fulfils a life-long dream.

“Moving to Manchester United has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember,” he said after completing his move on Tuesday. “This was an opportunity that I couldn’t let pass and I’m thrilled to become a part of such a historic club.

“I’ve enjoyed every moment of my career so far and I’m now ready to continue learning and improving alongside some of the best players in the game,” he added. “But at the same time, I intend to use my experience to help the team whenever possible.

“I want to say a huge thank you to those close to me who have supported me along my journey so far. I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates and giving everything possible for the club in the upcoming season.

Sam Johnstone swapped Old Trafford for West Bromich Albion and Jose Mourinho was keen to bring in a third-choice goalkeeper behind David De Gea and Sergio Romero to allow academy players leave on loan.

Grant is expected to meet his teammates on Monday when their prepare for their pre-season tour of the US.
