Diego Maradona has been admitted to hospital after suffering from bleeding in his stomach.
The 1986 World Cup winner is currently working in Mexico as sporting director of Dorados de Sinaloa but was back in his native Argentina when urgently admitted to the Olivos clinic in an upmarket neighbourhood of Buenos Aires.
Maradona’s lawyer confirmed that the former Argentina and Al-Wasl coach was undergoing tests including an endoscopy.
El Diego’s latest health scare comes almost ten years to the day since he was hospitalised with a near-lethal cocaine overdose in Uruguay.
The former Barcelona forward has endured well-publicised struggles with illness, including addiction.
Maradona’s family are at the clinic in Buenos Aires where he will he held for further testing.
He is expected to return to Mexico for Dorados’ first game of the year despite reports that he was ready to quit the club after they dramatically missed out on promotion last season.
