A fan's view: Assem Allam saved Hull City, he can do what he wants

This is such a special case that whatever Assem Allam wants to do is fine by me. I don’t mind the name change to the Tigers. For me the bottom line is whatever he says, goes.

Assem saved the club and he made his money in Hull. He’s unique among the foreign owners because he’s doing this for the city. He thinks the club should grace the city and help it.

I met him at the stadium at a party he gave for Omar Sharif and I was going to tell Omar that we should ask him to buy Hull City. I never got round to it, but he did it anyway. I used to tell Omar about Hull City in the 1960s when we shared a flat in Paris and that Egyptian connection is rather wonderful.

Last season they had three Egyptian players and a wag outside the ground was selling Fezzes with tigers on the front.

They’re known as the Tigers and they used to run out to “Tiger Rag”. Also when I started going just after the war they wore black and amber stripes.

I go with Assem. He’s clearly shown his ability and his love for Hull and not many people have done that. He got Steve Bruce and got them into the Premiership and this time it will be economically viable.
