ArcelorMittal Orbit to be turned gold if England win World Cup

When Team GB athletes won gold at the 2012 Olympics, post-boxes in their home towns were turned gold. But in the case of a successful England football team, it'll be a rather larger red object that receives a new lick of paint.

It has been announced the the ArcelorMittal Orbit, the bizarre structure in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park that was commissioned for the London Games, will be transformed if Roy Hodgson's side go all the way in Brazil.

The 114.5 metre high sculpture is currently red, a colour chosen by Sir Anish Kapoor due to it signifying luck in many parts of the world. But the owners of the ArcelorMittal Orbit are prepared to transform it in a show of support for the England team that kick-off their World Cup campaign against Italy on Saturday.

The sculpture is the tallest in the UK, and was closed after the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics to undergo reconstruction before being re-opened back in April this year.
