Manchester United winger Ashley Young is close to agreeing a new contract at Old Trafford, according to reports.

The 30-year-old was expected to frequent the sidelines more than the starting line-up last season as Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal invested heavily in the likes of Angel Di Maria.

But the England international cemented his place in the Dutchman's plans as United secured Champions League football after one year away.

talkSPORT report that Young has moved to quash any rumours linking him with a move to Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur by agreeing new terms with the club.

Spurs are keen to sign a wide man this summer with potential exits involving some or all of Erik Lamela, Andros Townsend and Aaron Lennon.

Despite the arrival of Memphis Depay this summer, Van Gaal still values the former Aston Villa man as a key component of his midfield as he plots to win the Premier League this season.

Young has just one year left on his current deal but is likely to be rewarded for his efforts during the last campaign with improved terms and the security of a longer contract.

The former Watford winger made 29 appearances for the Old Trafford club last season, scoring two goals, as he kept £59.7m Di Maria on the bench for much of the year.
