BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year 2013: Adnan Januzaj fails to make the top three

Adnan Januzaj has not made the top three for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award.

The Manchester United starlet, 18, was named on the shortlist, but has been left out of the final contenders who are instead made up of athlete Dina Asher-Smith, shooter Amber Hill and golfer Charley Hull.

The trio were announced on Blue Peter with the winner being crowned at the BBC’s full awards ceremony on December 15. Last year’s winner was swimmer Josef Craig.

Belgium born Januzaj, who could yet represent England at international level, has only made nine appearances for United this year and was an unexpected pick for the original shortlist.

The award is giving to an outstanding young sportsperson aged 17 or under on 1 January 2013, and has been won by some prestigious names in the past including Wimbledon Champion Andy Murray in 2004 and England striker Wayne Rooney in 2002. Olympic bronze medallist Tom Daley is also a former victor, claiming the award in three out for four years between 2007 and 2010.
