Bergkamp hints at Highbury departure

The news is another worry for Arsenal's manager, Arsÿne Wenger, who has dismissed reports suggesting that Marc Overmars wants a new challenge elsewhere.

One player moving on from Highbury, at least temporarily, is Christopher Wreh. The Liberian striker is joining Birmingham City on a three-month loan deal and could find himself playing alongside Marcelo. Birmingham are poised to complete the Brazilian's £500,000 transfer from Sheffield United.

Wreh, 24, has struggled to make an impression on the first team at Highbury since joining from the French side Guingamp in 1997. Marcelo, a 30-year-old striker who initially turned down a move to Birmingham last week, will complete his transfer after undergoing a medical tonight. Both are expected to make their debuts at Grimsby tomorrow.

Wolves have paid Swindon Town nearly £1m for George Ndah. The 24-year-old former Crystal Palace striker trained with his new team-mates yesterday morning and he could make his debut against Port Vale tomorrow.

Wolves have succeeded in heading off late interest from Watford's manager, Graham Taylor, who watched Ndah in Tuesday's defeat at Barnsley and followed up by making a bid for the player.

Middlesbrough's manager, Bryan Robson, wants to sign Hayden Mullins, the Crystal Palace prospect, as an understudy for Paul Ince. Robson is ready to move for the midfielder, who could cost about £1m. Gordon McQueen and Ray Train watched him score at Blackburn on Robson's behalf.

Mullins is also admired by Leicester but Boro have the money to tempt him immediately, and Palace admit they have little option but to sell.

Palace's manager, Steve Coppell, said: "I've had calls about Mullins and I'm sure when one club bids three or four others will come in. It depends how the administrators view the situation."

* Paul Gascoigne could follow Mark Hughes in finding himself in trouble with the Football Association after playing in Sir Alex Ferguson's testimonial match while serving a two-match ban. Hughes has already been charged by the FA for playing in the game while banned.
