The Juventus coach, Fabio Capello, says his dream is to coach England.

"Within three years I will pack in coaching at club level and then I want to realise the dream I have always had inside me - England," Capello said in an interview with the Italian magazine L'Expresso to be published today.

Capello, who won league titles with Milan and Roma, has recently been linked with a return to Real Madrid. He said that if he achieved his dream he would then consider retiring from coaching.

"After that I might get away from it all," he said. "I have bought a house on [the island of] Pantelleria for that reason."

If Capello does eventually become the England manager, he may be able to lead out his team at - but then again, maybe not. The latest setback to afflict the national stadium was problems with the sewer pipes, which have buckled due to ground movement.

The builders Multiplex insist that the opening date, which is now hoped to be the Community Shield in August has not been affected - but given the chequered history of the stadium's construction, the nation will not hold its breath.
