Community Shield between Manchester United and Wigan returns to Wembley

Premier League champions Manchester United will face FA Cup winners Wigan as the Community Shield returns to Wembley on August 11.

The season curtain-raiser was held at Villa Park last summer because of a clash with the London Olympics but returns to its traditional home with a 2pm kick-off.

Both sides will be led out by new managers as David Moyes has succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford while Wigan have yet to appoint their boss after Roberto Martinez became Moyes' replacement at Goodison Park.

"You have to go all the way back to 1985 for the last time that Manchester United played in this fixture without Sir Alex Ferguson on the touchline so the eyes of the world will be on the Community Shield and Wembley when David Moyes leads them out in August," said FA general secretary Alex Horne.

"Wigan Athletic provided a fairytale ending to this season's FA Cup Final, which was fitting in our 150th anniversary year, and it will be great to welcome them back to Wembley as they take on the double challenge of Europa League football and the Championship."

United have received a ticket allocation of 35,000 for the match while relegated Wigan, criticised in some quarters for not selling out last season's Wembley allocations on the way to the FA Cup final, will have just 15,000 and prices range from £20 to £45.

"Manchester United travel in great numbers while Wigan Athletic's allocation is based on the attendances across their two visits to Wembley in The FA Cup last season," added Horne.

"The 2pm kick-off time has been agreed by all the relevant authorities and means that both sets of supporters can travel back to the north west."
