Dindane transfer deal stalls for West Brom

West Bromwich Albion's hopes of landing Anderlecht's Aruna Dindane appear to have hit a brick wall created by the Belgian club's refusal to sell.

The Albion chairman, Jeremy Peace, was prepared to break his club's transfer record as it is understood an offer of £5m was made for the Ivory Coast star, a close friend of new Chelsea striker Didier Drogba.

Tottenham and Lyon are also understood to be interested in the Belgian player of the year, who scored twice in Anderlecht's 3-0 win over Benfica on Tuesday to fire his side into the lucrative group stages of the Champions' League.

Money is an incentive for the proposed move as Dindane feels he could earn at least three times what he gets at Anderlecht where it is believed he only picks up around £5,000 per week. But Anderlecht are holding out for at least £7m, as they now no longer need to sell after reaching the last 32 of the Champions' League.

Dindane's agent, Serge Trimpont, said the player is almost certain to remain in Brussels.

"We have been fighting and fighting for weeks to get Aruna released from Anderlecht," said Trimpont. "With just five days remaining to the closure of the transfer window, there is no way Anderlecht will now sell Aruna without a solution to replace their best player."

With the West Brom manager, Gary Megson, looking to strengthen his forward line, he may turn to Sylvain Wiltord, who was released by Arsenal in the summer, but the Frenchman's wages could be too high.
