The possibility of a Great Britain Olympics team with England players such as Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard competing at the London Games next year has been ruled out by the Football Association.
It has been agreed that no one who represents England at Euro 2012 in the June and July will also be involved in the Games tournament, which runs between 25 July and 11 August. The Olympics competition is for under-23s plus three over-age players, prompting suggestions that some of the nation's leading players could take part.
There is still no agreement on how the other home associations will participate. It is thought unlikely that the likes of Gareth Bale (Wales) and Darren Fletcher (Scotland) will be cleared to play.
