Schalke head coach Felix Magath remains confident that he made the right decision in leaving Bundesliga champions Wolfsburg to head to Gelsenkirchen.

Magath is preparing his side for a clash with his former employers and is content with his lot, despite Schalke suffering financial problems over the summer.

He told the club’s official website: “Nobody forced me to come to the Royal Blues and I see this as an exciting challenge, both for Schalke and for me.

“I am actually happy to have this challenge and am convinced that we will get the situation under control in the coming months.

“The fans want to see results and we will work over the coming months to create a basis for us to play successful football here.

“And in a few months, the public will see that we have done something here.”

Meanwhile, Brazilian defender Rafinha is almost certain to leave the club in the January transfer window, according to Magath.

The 24-year-old wing-back has been linked with the likes of Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Juventus and Magath will not be surprised to see a deal agreed by the financially troubled Bundesliga club.

He told Novantesimo.it: “There is no better defender - who can go forward - better than him in the Bundesliga. If he continues to play like this, Bayern will have no choice but to contact us.

“Although, should he maintain these levels of consistency, a team at the level of Barcelona may also contact us.”
