Football arrest figures 2015: Manchester United top Premier League table for fans arrested, Leeds highest in country

Leeds United topped the charts out of every professional club in England and Wales with 99 arrests

Leeds United supporters were the subject of more football-related arrests than those of any other club in English football’s professional leagues last season.

According to the latest figures released by the Home Office, the Elland Road club had a fan arrested 99 times during the 2014/15 season.

Their club’s historic rivals, Manchester United, had a fan arrested on 85 occasions, which is the second-highest total of any professional club in England and Wales.

Nationally, the number of arrests fell compared to the 2013/14 season. The total of 1,873 arrests represents an 18 per cent decrease. The most common offences leading to arrest were public disorder (34 per cent), alcohol offences (22 per cent) and violent disorder (16 per cent).

Unsurprisingly, given its greater attendance figures, the highest number of football-related arrests occurs in the Premier League, with 772 made over the course of the season.

However, the Football Conference, now renamed the National League, was the competition with the highest football-related arrest rate. 7.4 people per 100,000 attendees were arrested watching the non-league’s top division.
