Kezman wary at Atletico interest

* The Chelsea striker Mateja Kezman has reacted cautiously to reports that he could sign for Atletico Madrid after the club's director of sport, Toni Munoz, said that he was interested in securing the services of the Serbo-Montenegrin forward. Chelsea's Argentine striker, Hernan Crespo, is close to extending his stay at Milan, according to the Italian club.

Viafara to join Portsmouth

* Portsmouth have signed the midfielder John Viafara from the Colombian side Once Caldas, subject to a work permit. The 26-year-old Colombia international will become Alain Perrin's third signing of the summer after the arrivals of Laurent Robert and Andy O'Brien from Newcastle. Elsewhere, Tommy Miller has joined Sunderland from Ipswich on a two-year deal.

Caborn pledge to help Cambridge

* The Sports Minister, Richard Caborn, has stepped in to try to stop Cambridge United going into liquidation. The club went into administration after being relegated from the Football League last season and talks over a £500,000 debt to their biggest creditor, the Inland Revenue, have broken down. Caborn will speak to ministerial colleagues to see if an agreement can be reached.
