Former Chelsea player Winston Bogarde has applied for the vacant manager's job at Oldham Athletic.

The 44-year-old, who started just four games in his disastrous four year spell at the Blues, when he trained with the youth team while collecting his £40,000 a week wage.

Of his time with Chelsea, he said: "This world is about money, so when you are offered those millions you take them.

"Few people will ever earn so many. I am one of the few fortunate ones who do. I may be one of the worst buys in the history of the Premiership but I don't care."

In total he appeared only 11 times for Chelsea, and retired in 2005, having failed to reach an deal with any other club after leaving the Blues.

The Dutchman is yet to manage a team, but also applied for the Motherwell job back in November. Lee Johnson left his role as boss of the League One side last month to take over at Barnsley in February.
