Gary Lineker involved in Twitter row after presenter rubbishes claims he will be warned by BBC over foul-mouthed tweets

The Match of the Day presenter included a swear word in a tweet as he watched Leicester beat Manchester United 5-3 on Sunday

Gary Lineker has found himself at the centre of a spat with the Telegraph after a report claimed the Match of the Day presenter would be warned by the BBC for using foul language on Twitter during Leicester City’s incredible 5-3 victory over Manchester United on Sunday.

The former England striker, who spent nine years with the Foxes having come through their youth ranks, was unable to contain his excitement during the comeback victory that saw United throw away a 3-1 lead in the most dramatic of fashions.

Lineker tweeted: “F*****g hell!” before later adding “S**t on Man United!” as Nigel Pearson’s side fought back to register a historic victory, and their first against United since 1998.

However, an article appeared on Monday claiming that the BBC have warned the 53-year-old to mind his language when using social media, only for Lineker to reply to both the Telegraph’s sport account and the writer of the article, Ben Rumsby, and deny the story.

Rumsby would apologise and insist that he had been told the information by the BBC, before adding quotes from his source that reiterated the fact that Lineker will be spoken to.
