Hamburg defender Guy Demel has ruled out a move to Sunderland despite claiming he could have doubled his wages.
The 28-year-old Ivory Coast international, who had been linked with a move to the Black Cats this month, insists he wants to remain at the Bundesliga outfit.
"I will stay with Hamburg. That is certain," Demel told the Hamburger Morgenpost.
"What made me happy was the telephone call that I had last week with our club boss (chairman) Bernd Hoffmann.
"He said to me that he would be pleased if I would continue to play for Hamburg when I come back from the African Nations Cup.
"And I also realised that many fans did not want me to go."
Demel, who is under contract at the HSV-Arena until 2012, added: "I could have made almost double in Sunderland what I earn with Hamburg."
