Hillsborough disaster: Liverpool to honour 25th anniversary of tragedy with special 'Patch for the 96' badge on their shirt

Liverpool have announced plans to a new commemorative badge that will be displayed on the shirts for the final three home games of the season to mark the 25th anniversary of the tragic Hillsborough disaster.
The Football Association have already put plans into place to have every match taking place across next weekend to kick-off seven minutes late, marking the anniversary of the match that took place on April 15, 1989 that was called off after six minutes.
The Merseyside club have now revealed that they will mark the tragedy with a special “patch for the 96” campaign, in order to raise funds for the families of the 96 that died at Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough stadium.
The iron-on patch will be available to buy from the official club store and Offical LFC Online Store for £2, which will be donated to the families. The disaster is currently in the headlines once more due to the on-going inquiry into the tragedy.
Margaret Aspinall, chair of the Hillsborough Family Support Group (HFSG), commented on Liverpool’s official club site liverpoolfc.com: “The 25th anniversary of Hillsborough is an important milestone for the families.
“The 'Patch for the 96' is a special way for all football fans from across the world to come together in support and is a commemorative sign of unity.”
