The Roy Hodgson baiting continues over the England manager's selection of Javier Mascherano as the best player in the world during 2014.

It was revealed that the England manager omitted both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi from his top three picks for the Ballon d'Or, instead selecting the Argentina defender as his number one. A defensive looking selection was completed by Germany duo Philipp Lahm and Manuel Neuer.

The bizarre choice from Hodgson (a view only shared by the Belarus manager Andrei Zygmantovich) led to much derision on Twitter. That's only become worse after Colin Murray initiated a hashtag during his radio show on Talksport. #hodgsonstopthree quickly caught on and here are some of our favourites...

Ronaldo came out top in the overall voting to pick up his third Ballon d'Or. Messi was second, just ahead of Neuer.
