Mark Clattenburg to be kept off referees' list again

Mark Clattenburg is not expected to be named on the referees' list for next weekend's fixtures when it is released by the body that oversees officials today.

The referees' governing organisation, Professional Match Game Officials (PGMO), has left Clattenburg off the list for the last two weekends since Chelsea's official complaint against him following the league game against Manchester United two weeks ago.

That is unlikely to change today even though the Football Association will try to come to a decision on whether there will be charges against the referee by the end of the week. He was alleged to have racially abused John Obi Mikel. Should it be decided that he does not have a case to answer, he could potentially be in line for a return the following week.

Clattenburg was interviewed by the FA on Friday, along with assistant referees Michael McDonough and Simon Long and fourth official Michael Jones.

Chelsea submitted a dossier of evidence, including witness statements from some of their players alleging Clattenburg said a word which could be interpreted as racist.
