Poll's comments annoyed the Old Trafford club and Neville said on Tuesday that he was now a marked man. "Graham Poll didn't upset me but once one referee has said something, the others will take note," said the England full-back after his side's 2-0 win over Charlton in which he was yellow-carded by Steve Dunn. "When you think about diving I don't believe the first player who comes to mind is me."

The complaints have been enough to raise speculation that the Tring official, who was England's representative at the last World Cup, would be charged with bringing the game into disrepute by the Football Association. However, the Football Association have assured Poll that will not happen. "Contrary to today's reports, the FA would like to confirm that the referee Graham Poll will not face any disciplinary action," a spokesman said.

Poll was supposed to have taken charge of yesterday's match between United and Liverpool at Old Trafford but he pulled out with a hamstring problem.

Another England defender, Chelsea's John Terry, is tipped to win the PFA Young Player of the Year award today. As he is in contention with Kolo Touré, a triumph for Terry could prevent an Arsenal double. Touré's team-mate Thierry Henry looks certain to take the senior award.
