Premier League clubs will meet next week for discussions on imposing spending controls, including restricting the amount clubs spend on players' wages.
The clubs have been split into two groups – the 10 southern-most clubs meet on Monday, the rest on Wednesday – to discuss a number of issues. A majority are in favour of trying to find ways to control spending despite being set to receive significant rises in income when the new £3bn domestic TV deal begins next season.
Among the suggestions are clubs being allowed to spend a maximum percentage of their annual income on player costs, and adopting a version of Uefa's financial fairplay league.
