REVEALED: Guy Mowbray notes show how (some) football commentators sound so knowledgeable
Meticulous notes of BBC commentator revealed on Twitter
Football commentators and pundits come in for a lot of criticism, just ask Phil Neville.
But the majority of the time they spout facts and information of various degrees of interest about the players running around the field in front of them.
During last night's game between Liverpool and Newcastle, an insight was provided as to how commentators manage to sound so knowledgeable.
A picture emerged on Twitter that showed the notes of BBC Radio 5 Live commentator Guy Mowbray for the match at Anfield. The sheet of A4 paper included details on every player expected to be involved, with precise information on appearances, goals and transfer fees.
There were also interesting factual nuggets that Mowbray could draw upon on across the evening, such as Newcastle's Ryan Taylor being a Liverpool fan, Simon Mignolet holding a political science degree and Jamie Sterry having an Italian grandad.
Perhaps in future Mowbray could print off a copy for his more criticised peers.
