Rosenborg ready to make move for Heggem
The Norwegian club Rosenborg Trondheim are targeting the Liverpool defender Vegard Heggem. The 27-year-old Norwegian international has made four appearances over the last two seasons, and 65 in four years, due to hamstring problems. He is out of contract next summer, but it is unclear whether Rosenborg intend to make their move before then.
"My first aim is to get well and then to play for Liverpool reserves in the next month," Heggem said. "A transfer is not on my mind as of now. That would have to come from the Liverpool management."
Everton's Scot Gemmill is wanted by Stoke City. The Scotland international midfielder impressed the new Stoke manager Tony Pulis when he watched him in Everton's reserves. Gemmill has had fitness problems and the form of the Toffees' squad has meant he cannot even get a place on the bench, so Everton may decide to let him go for a month to improve his sharpness.
The Ipswich Town manager Joe Royle wants to bring Marcus Stewart back from Sunderland. The striker has struggled since moving as one of Peter Reid's last signings for the Wearside club, and Reid's successor Howard Wilkinson has promoted Michael Proctor ahead of him.
Cardiff City have confirmed the signing of China's World Cup defender Fan Zhiyi. The 33-year-old former Crystal Palace player, who has won 109 caps for his country, has agreed personal terms with the club on a contract until the end of the season. He has yet to complete a medical and the club need to finalise a work permit from the Home Office.
Fan first came to Cardiff's attentions after refusing to sign an extended contract with Dundee before this summer's transfer deadline. An injury in China's opening match against Costa Rica ruled him out of the remaining fixtures in last summer's World Cup.
