In a professional career spanning almost two decades, Simon "Smudger" Smith has played for over 67 clubs. The ultimate utility player, as his pace has diminished he has reinvented himself time and again, from poacher to holding midfielder, centre-back to goalkeeper.

It was great to see such a strong showing on Tuesday night and a couple of very nice finishes – the chocolate frosting on that Buckingham Palace cake in particular. After watching The Great British Bake Off I got to see the taped games, which were also good.

Man United came from behind to win as Patrice Evra shouldered the blame for the first goal and Cluj blamed the shoulder for the second. Chelsea will be happy with their win since Football Club Nordsjaelland are a big name in the footballing world. Fortunately they're rubbish. It was also an excellent win for Arsenal against Olympiakos. The Greeks just couldn't afford to give Gervinho that much space. Then again, these days they can't really afford anything.

I've noticed that Joe Hart is always referred to as a "great shot-stopper" but what keeper in the world isn't? Only old muggins here. Some have gone as far as to call Joe's performance the best in the history of the competition but I can only assume they've forgotten Mario Galinovic in the 2004 group game between Panathinaikos and Rosenborg.

I see that Roy Keane might take the Blackburn job. This is great news for the fans as it means they simply have to add an E to their placards should things go wrong.

Finally, I was shocked and disappointed by the incident involving Roy Hodgson on the Tube this week. It's just not acceptable. Looking at the pictures, I just can't believe nobody offered their seat to a 65-year-old man and he had to stand.
