Liverpool have announced details of a glamour friendly at the end of the month as they bid goodbye to captain Steven Gerrard.

Billed as a "charity" match rather than a tribute match, Anfield will host the match between two "All-Star" line-ups on 29 March containing some of the world's best players and former greats of the game, including Thierry Henry, Didier Drogba and former Liverpool strikers Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres.

Steven Gerrard and former Reds team-mate Jamie Carragher will captain either side.

The 34-year-old Gerrard leaves the Reds in the summer to join Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS, ending a 26-year association with his boyhood club.

The game will take place during the international weekend, with England playing Lithuania at Wembley in a Euro 2016 qualifier on Friday the 27th.

A statement on Liverpool's website read: "Gerrard will take on the role of captain for one team, while Carragher will take on the same role for the other All-Star side. Managers and the final line-up of each All-Star team will be announced in the coming weeks.

"Player recruitment is well underway, and players confirmed include Luis Suarez, Fernando Torres, Pepe Reina, Dirk Kuyt, Xabi Alonso, Thierry Henry, John Terry and Didier Drogba, to name a few.

"Current Reds first-team players who are not on international duty will also play some part, as well as some of the Academy's brightest stars, plus the club's backroom staff will also be on hand to offer support.

"Gerrard will leave Liverpool at the end of the season and this special match will give fans the opportunity to see him alongside some of their favourites - all to raise funds for the local community."
