American broadcaster CBS have reportedly rejected a medical marijuana commercial which was proposed to air during the NFL Superbowl on February 3.

The advert, pitched by Acreage Holdings – one of the largest cannabis companies in the US – focused on the advantages of medical use of the drug.

The ad was designed to illustrate the story of an army veteran dealing with the pain of combat injuries and a child suffering from seizures.

The company’s president, George Allen, told Bloomberg that its aim was to “create an advocacy campaign for constituents who are being lost in the dialogue,” insisting that the ad was a “call to political action” and not just a commercial campaign.

Acreage Holdings currently sell medical marijuana in 15 of the 33 states where it is available for medical purposes in the US.
