Maybe it was due to the World Cup and the opportunity it presented for previous unknowns to showcase their talent but this summer the sport pages were going berserk linking players with this club and that.

The window is now closed and as the ink dries on those last minute signings we take stock of the deals that failed to materialise. These are the players who seemed certain to move on, but for one reason or another didn't.
