After celebrating his goal against Tottenham yesterday in brilliant fashion, referencing the video that emerged on the same day of him being 'knocked out' by former team-mate Phil Bardsley during a kitchen sparring session, it is no surprise it was given the full meme treatment (or should that be tweetment?).

Rooney made light of the shock video, which was filmed in his own house on 22 February, with the celebration after scoring the decisive third in the 3-0 win over Tottenham.

Talking about the video, Rooney said afterwards: "It's in my own home. It's not public. It's what friends do. They mess around in the house.

"It was a couple of mates in a private house, and somehow it’s managed to get on the front page of a national newspaper. That’s the world we live in today."
