Weather: Premier League games, including Everton v Crystal Palace and Stoke City v Swansea given the go-ahead despite severe weather warnings

Wednesday's Premier League fixtures all remain scheduled to go ahead despite warnings of severe weather, particularly in the north west.

The Met Office has issued red warnings - the highest possible - for parts of Wales and north-west England in the evening.

Gusts of 80-100mph are anticipated, capable of causing structural damage or uprooting trees. Members of the public are advised to alter travel arrangements.

One of the areas covered by the warnings is Merseyside, where Everton are due to host Crystal Palace.

Everton have said they are monitoring the situation ahead of the game at Goodison Park.

A club statement issued early afternoon read: "For those asking, we are aware of the forecast and will monitor throughout the day. At this stage the game is very much on."

An amber warning, meaning possible severe gales, is also in place for Greater Manchester in the evening and a lesser yellow warning for strong wind in Stoke-on-Trent.

Manchester City take on Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium and Stoke host Swansea.

A Stoke spokesman said: "We are monitoring the situation closely, but as yet the match is not in any danger. If that changes we will obviously make people aware."

There are three other fixtures in the Premier League, all of which also involve fans travelling significant distances: Newcastle v Tottenham, Arsenal v Manchester United and Fulham v Liverpool.

As of shortly after 1300, the Premier League said all fixtures were due to go ahead.

Elsewhere, one game was beaten by the weather as heavy rain forced the postponement of the Sheffield United v Brentford clash in League One. A decision was taken after a pitch inspection at 1300.
