Alexis Sanchez named PFA Fans' Player of the Season: Did Arsenal fans hijack another vote?

More than 200,000 supporters voted for the award

Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez has been named the PFA Fans' Player of the Season after firing in 16 goals in his first season in England.

The Chilean, who will play at the Copa America this summer, won the award after more than 200,000 football fans voted via 90min.com, beating Chelsea star Eden Hazard and Sergio Aguero.

But after hijacking Match of the Day's goal of the season competition, where Jack Wilshere was named winner, have Arsenal fans hijacked this award too?

If you look back through the monthly winners a pattern emerges - Arsenal players win more than their fair share.

In comparison to the Premier League Player of the Month award, Arsenal players have been given a much better showing.

Olivier Giroud (March) was the only Arsenal to be handed the monthly award by the Premier League, but members of Arsene Wenger's squad have won the Fans' award on four occasions.

OUT OF CONTRACT: The veteran midfielder has missed much of the season due to injury, making it difficult to convince Arsenal to give him a new deal. However, the Spaniard is expected to still be at the Emirates next season is some capacity.

RUMOURED EXIT: Whilst set to play in the FA Cup final due to Wenger's selection policy, Szczesny may not feature for Arsenal again after that. Poor form and being caught smoking saw him lose his place to David Ospina and with Petr Cech possibly arriving this summer, Szczesny could depart.

RETURNING LOANEE: After a promising World Cup, Arsenal opted not to send the Costa Rica international straight out on loan. But after failing to make an impact in his limited opportunities he went to Villarreal in January. Arsenal are understood to be prepared to let Campbell leave permanently this summer.

RETURNING LOANEE: Having been allowed to go to Inter Milan in January, it appears there is no place for Podolski at Arsenal. Despite a healthy goal return, Wenger is simply not a fan. Will have a year to run on his contract this summer.

Sanchez won it back in October, before Santi Cazorla was named Fans' Player of the Month back-to-back in December and January. Mesut Ozil was given the award for April and now Sanchez has been named the winner for this season.

One lucky fan voter will be chosen to present Sanchez with the award in person at an Arsenal home game next season.
