Goalkeeper forced off after 39 minutes with calf injury

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Alisson suffered a calf injury in Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Norwich City on Friday night.

The goalkeeper is now set to miss Wednesday night’s Super Cup meeting with Chelsea after being forced off during the first half at Anfield.

Alisson pulled up shortly after taking a routine goal kick and, after spending several minutes receiving treatment, had to be helped walk off the pitch.

The Brazil international was replaced by Adrian, who only joined Liverpool this week as a replacement for Simon Mignolet.

“With Alisson it is not good but we will find a solution and move on,” Klopp told BBC Sport. “He felt his calf. He looked behind him because he thought something hit him.

“But Adrian is a good goalie. In possession he is calm and he is good at shot-stopping, that’s why we signed him. It’s good for him but we have a little problem with Ali.”

In his post match press conference, Klopp confirmed that Alisson would undergo scans on his calf to determine the length of his injury absence. “There is actually nothing bad to say about the game apart from Ali’s injury,” he said.

“That is, of course, not good for us, but we have to see how serious it is and then we have to deal with it. It’s the calf and that’s it. He couldn’t carry on, that’s not a good sign. We have to see.

“Wednesday [in the Super Cup], he will not play – with all my experience, I can say that already. He is injured, for sure, so we have to see how much.”
