Liverpool are set to pull off a coup by appointing Andreas Kornmayer, one of Bayern Munich’s fitness coaches, as their head of fitness and conditioning.

The 41-year-old has reportedly accepted Jürgen Klopp’s offer to take charge of the fitness team at Anfield from next season, according to The Guardian, following the departure of Ryland Morgans last month.

Kornmayer, who has been with the Bavarian club since 2004, was promoted to first-team duties at the Allianz Arena in 2010 and has since worked under head coaches Louis van Gaal, Jupp Heynckes and Pep Guardiola.

Andy O’Boyle, Liverpool’s Under-21s fitness coach, has been standing in for Morgans, an appointment of former manager Brendan Rodgers. Morgans left the club in search of a ‘new challenge’ at the end of March ahead of his contract with the club expiring in the summer.

Kornmayer is believed to be a popular figure at Bayern, with Thomas Muller previously praising him for “transforming me from a slow snail into a speedy snail.”

Klopp became aware of the 41-year-old’s work during his time at Borussia Dortmund and credited Bayern’s fitness levels as one of the reasons behind their treble-winning 2012/13 campaign.

Liverpool face Klopp’s former club in a Europa League quarter-final at Anfield on Thursday, having seen out a 1-1 at Signal Iduna Park in last week’s first leg.
