Angel Di Maria determined to rival the other men to wear the Manchester United No 7 - Best, Cantona and Ronaldo
Argentinian promises to do "all that is possible" to continue tradition
Angel Di Maria has promised to do "all that is possible" to live up to Manchester United's famous No 7 shirt.
The shirt has been worn by some of United's best ever from George Best to Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Since Ronaldo's departure however the shirt has enjoyed less success with Michael Owen and then Antonio Valencia the wearers.
But Di Maria has been hugely impressive in two matches since his British record £59.7million move from Real Madrid, starring as Louis van Gaal's team won their first match of the season 4-0 against Queens Park Rangers, and will do his best to emulate those former stars.
"It is very nice to use this number," he told Fox Sports Radio Del Plata.
"Many important players have worn this shirt and I am going to do all that is possible to not let down this shirt."
Di Maria scored the opener in his home debut at Old Trafford, swinging in a free-kick that was missed by everyone.
"I wished very much for the day of my debut at Old Trafford and I did in the best way, scoring a goal.
"The happiness is enormous. We have a coach that wants the very best from each player.
"We put a lot of pressure on in the attack, we handled the ball and we got near to our rivals’ goal many times."
