Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny happy to stay with Roma but admits he doesn't know why Gunners wouldn't want him

Szczesny is spending the season on loan with the Italian side but believes his future could yet lie with Arsenal

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has made it clear that he could stay with Roma if Arsene Wenger does not want him.

Szczesny is spending the 2015/16 season with Italian side Roma after seeing himself frozen out of the Arsenal first team following the arrival of Petr Cech from Chelsea in the summer.

Still just 25 years old, Szczesny believes he can force his way back into the Arsenal reckoning and explained that he sees no reason why the club or Wenger wouldn’t want him.

"My future will be decided after the European Championships," he told sports website przegladsportowy.pl.

"I love Arsenal, but I'm happy at Roma. I know that Roma want me, but I don't see why Arsenal would not want me also.

"Leaving Arsenal was painful and it was a difficult decision to make. I can't imagine myself with another English team."

Szczesny has become a regular fixture in Rudi Garcia’s Roma side, although a dislocated finger suffered in a Champions League match against Barcelona and a handful of errors have hindered his time in Italy so far.

It’s these errors that led to Wenger losing faith in the Poland international and making a move for Cech despite him playing for London rivals Chelsea, but Szczesny is more concerned with playing regular football at this stage in his career and is happy to be in the Italian capital rather than the English one.

"Garcia believes in me and so too do my team-mates and the fans," he added.

"Coming to Rome was the best choice. It's best being a starter for the runners-up in Italy than sitting on the bench in England. Even Arsene Wenger thought it was the best thing for me."
