Nacho Monreal could be forced to start at centre-back for Arsenal in their Premier League match against Hull City on Saturday, with Laurent Koscielny struggling to be fit for the fixture because of his Achilles tendon injury.
The Gunners are in the midst of an injury crisis, with 10 players currently sidelined. Alongside defender Koscielny, midfielders Mesut Ozil and Tomas Rosicky both had to withdraw from international duty over the past fortnight because of injury.
The Spaniard Monreal had playedas a centre-back during pre-season, but admitted then that he found it "a little bit strange" playing in that position.
Wenger had said of the versatile Monreal: "He can do well there because he is intelligent, because he has a good sense of interception, because he reads the game well and is a good passer."
But it is not all bad news on the injury front for the Gunners, Theo Walcot is now back in full training and could feature against Hull.
