The son of Arsenal legend Robert Pires could be set to follow in his father's footsteps after completing a training session with the club's academy.

The ex-Gunners midfielder posted on social media that Theo, aged seven, took part in his first session at the club's Walthomstow youth training facility this week.

The midfielder, who won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups during his six years with the club and was a part of their legendary 'Invincibles' side in 2003/4, tweeted: "Theo at the Youth Arsenal Academy! Good first training!!!"

His father has regularly attended Arsenal fixtures this season with his son and Thierry Henry, and posted a photo of himself, Theo and Alexis Sanchez after the Gunners' 3-0 victory over Stoke City in January.

Theo is not the first son of a famous footballer to be given a chance by Arsenal recently. Brooklyn Beckham, David's eldest, has been representing the Gunners this season, the 15-year-old posting a video on social media of himself hitting the bar during one fixture.

Arsenal's latest famously-surnamed young recruit has also caused a stir on social media after Jessica Pires, Robert's wife, posted this video of Theo demonstrating his talent on Instagram in October last year.

Gunners fans will be pleased to note Theo's slaloming dribbling skills bear more than a passing resemblance to his father in his heyday.
