Arsenal are looking at Manchester United's Johnny Evans in their bid to sign another centre-back, reports suggest.

According to the Daily Mirror, the FA Cup holders are looking to strengthen their defence and the acquisition of the Manchester United defender could offer some productive competition to both Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.

The 27-year-old did not manage to cement his place as a starting defender at Old Trafford and failed to earn Louis Van Gaal's trust last season.

The Northern Ireland international could risk moving from one bench to another if he switches to London but things could change thanks to his ability to play on the wings.

Arsene Wenger's side are not the only ones interested in Evans as West Bromwich Albion are also said to be considering him.

Tony Pulis' side could benefit from the defender's experience, while Evans could be united with fellow countrymen Gareth McAuley and Chris Brunt.

The Northern Irishman spent two years at United's youth team and moved to the main roster in 2006 where he amassed 131 appearances and four goals.

During his stint at Old Trafford he also spent a two-year loan at Sunderland.

Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Greece and Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas.
