Jack Wilshere will miss Arsenal’s next three games after having another surgical procedure on his left ankle.

The England midfielder has not played for more than three months after undergoing surgery on his left ankle in late November. Wilshere was an unused substitute at Selhurst Park last Saturday but yesterday he had a new procedure, removing the studs from the pins in his left ankle that were causing him mild discomfort.

“Jack has had a little surgery to take two studs off his ankle because they were irritating him, but it’s a very minor procedure” Wenger revealed at his press conference on Friday morning. “It was irritating his ankle and they had to take it off. He is out for a few days.”

“It was planned to be done at the end of the season,” Wenger said, denying it was a ‘setback’. “But because he had an irritation with it we decided to do it now. It's just for a few days. I don't know exactly when he will be back but it's days, not weeks.”

Wilshere will miss Sunday’s game against Everton, though, and the trip to Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday evening. Wenger said that the following game – Manchester United away in the FA Cup quarter-final – would be a “bit quick”. Wilshere is likely to return to contention for West Ham United and Monaco in mid-March.
