More than 500 staff are set to lose their jobs at Aston Villa in a wide restructure by the relegated club.
Staff were told on Wednesday that 33 per cent of 1,600 employees, including full-time, part-time and matchday staff, will be made redundant as the club faces the Championship next season, according to the Birmingham Mail.
The move comes amid the news that club captain Gabby Agbonlahor will continue to pick up his weekly wage of £50,000, despite being suspended.
According to the report, the club hopes that the majority of cuts, spread across the entire workforce, will be voluntary.
Villa were relegated for the first time in 29 years at the weekend, after a miserable season that has seen them win just three of their 34 matches.
The club announced they had made a pre-tax loss of £27million to June 2015, with further losses expected in the next annual statement after relegation.
