Tottenham vs Leicester Premier League preview

Southampton earned a 2-0 win over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday to leave the Cherries on the brink of relegation from the Premier League.

A back-and-forth first half saw the hosts waste a number of decent chances before Danny Ings opened the scoring for the visitors close to half-time by bending a shot past Aaron Ramsdale.

The goal was his 21st of the league season, but the Saints striker then missed from the spot in the second half as his casual effort was easily held by the Bournemouth goalkeeper.

The Cherries seemed to have grabbed a dramatic late equaliser in added time when Sam Surridge – who had come off the bench – drilled a shot home after a long throw, but it was ruled out for offside after a VAR check.

Bournemouth coach Eddie Howe could not hide his despair on the sidelines, and moments later Che Adams sealed the win for Southampton with the last kick of the game in the 98th minute.

To stay up, Bournemouth must now win away at Everton next Sunday and hope that Watford lose both their remaining games at home to Manchester City on Tuesday and away at Arsenal on the last day of the league season so that the Cherries can creep above them on goal difference.

Watford are 17th in the standings with 34 points from 36 games, while second-from-bottom Bournemouth have 31 points from 37.

Meanwhile, Southampton are 11th in the table on 49 points with one fixture left.
