Chelsea will push through a £40m deal for Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero it was reported today.

The Argentine international has been a long term target for the Stamford Bridge outfit and it would appear that a deal will finally go through in January.

The report from The Telegraph suggests Chelsea will meet with the 21-year-old's agent on Monday to thrash out a deal, which at £40m, would make him the most expensive signing in British football transfer history.

Chelsea are eager to do business in the winter transfer window, with a Fifa-imposed transfer ban due to take effect from next summer. Chelsea have lodged an appeal against the ban, but should it fail they will be unable to do any business for some time.

Aguero is one of the most sought after players in world football having impressed at Atletico over the last couple of seasons. The striker scored twice against Chelsea in the recent 2-2 Champions League draw.
