Chelsea news: Frank Lampard backs his strikers to find their scoring boots despite early misfires

Chelsea’s front men have failed to score in each of their first two games of the Premier League season

Frank Lampard has backed his strikers to start scoring after drawing a blank in Chelsea’s first two Premier League games.

Tammy Abraham started against Manchester United before Olivier Giroud took his place against Leicester, but neither managed to find the net, though Giroud did score in Chelsea’s UEFA Super Cup defeat to Liverpool.

However, Lampard has thrown his support behind the pair, as well as Michy Batshuayi, ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Norwich.

“As I said before if we’d have been more clinical in front of goal we possibly could have had three wins,” said Lampard. “The competition is there, and that’s the challenge for the strikers.

“I’ve got no problems with their attitude and training.”

Batshuayi scored twice for Chelsea’s development squad on Monday night, and is determined to stay and fight for his place in the side.

The Belgian has not been involved in any of the three games that Chelsea’s first team have played so far this season.

Lampard was quick to underline how hard the three are pushing each other in training, and suggested that the goals will come.

“We work hard on the training ground as a team to create and also to finish,” Lampard added.

“What I have got is great attitude in the three strikers.

“Tammy’s goal goes in off the post against United, different story for him, different story for the game.

“But we can’t get too down about that, we’ve got to stay positive and it will come.

“We’ve got some great attacking players here.”
